Remounts

An ambulance remount is a cost-effective, sustainable, smart solution.

Have you ever considered an ambulance remount? Remounting and refurbishing an existing ambulance extends the life of your unit and can save you anywhere from $40,000 to $60,000 over buying a new ambulance.

More emergency services are choosing an ambulance remount than ever before. With successive crises creating long lead times for manufacturers, ambulance fleets have been stretched to their limit. Services are looking for new ambulances, while manufacturers struggle to get the materials and parts to produce them on time. Remounts are emerging as an intelligent alternative solution, offering advantages such as enhanced cost-effectiveness and eco-responsibility, alongside their other benefits.

Ambulance remounts are a smart way to renew your fleet now while planning ahead for your next new ambulance purchase.

Get a quality ambulance remount with high standards.

Deciding to remount an ambulance is a big decision. For some emergency services, the lack of standards for the remount process casts doubts on whether it is a wise decision. This can be incredibly unsettling when some remounts are carried out in the backyard by third parties who do not have full knowledge of the product. Ambulance technology is highly specialized. If a remount is not completed correctly, it can lead to operational problems and severe repercussions down the road for that emergency vehicle.

As an original equipment manufacturer (OEM), we believe we must create and adhere to a set of standards for ambulance remounts. We have developed a rigorous program involving our OEM engineers and factory-certified technicians to remount emergency vehicles for safety and conformity.

Our standard package covers everything you need for a quality ambulance remount.

This standard outlines the process and the components that must be replaced in every ambulance to guarantee a safe and durable ambulance remount. This standard package includes work on all aspects of the ambulance:

  • Chassis
  • Electrical
  • Chassis cabin
  • Exterior module
  • Decals
  • Module interior

Once standard components have been replaced, options and upgrades can be added according to your needs and the profile of the newest ambulances in your fleet. The selection of further work will be made with the advice of our team, which will help you define the ideal upgrade level that makes sense over purchasing a new vehicle.

Our ambulance remount packages are fully certified for key safety standards. They meet or exceed GVS V2.0 remountable standards, Transport Canada CMVSS, and USA FMVSS.

  1. Assessment. First, we will conduct a 160-safety point inspection to list the defective items and test systems to report any concerns and establish the scope of work. We will need to assess the vehicle in person for this. Photos and videos are good references, but an ambulance is a sophisticated product with many hidden components. Knowing the exact condition of your ambulance is necessary to go to the next step, which is why we prefer to conduct the assessment on the actual vehicle.
  2. Selection. Some items come standard on an ambulance remount. However, there are other options you can select based on the condition of your vehicle and the needs of your service. During this phase, we will conduct a deeper analysis of your requirements. We will go beyond painting, upholstery, new siren or lightning installation, and other feature integrations to discuss the latest technologies and layouts that can be retrofitted through options and special notes. At the end of this phase, we will have a complete list of items that will be modified during your ambulance remount.
  3. Ambulance Remount. This part of the process is where all the heavy lifting is done. Our engineers will work to ensure the mechanical and electrical compatibility of your care module and the new chassis technology. Our certified technicians will proceed with the remount package selected. They disassemble the frame from the care module, work on refurbishment, and remount the module on the new chassis.
  4. Quality control. At the end of production, ambulance remounts are inspected with the exact quality control process as a brand-new ambulance. Pre-delivery inspection and road tests are conducted with the same level of scrutiny so you can commission your ambulance with the same level of trust. An ambulance remount with Crestline offers peace of mind; don’t compromise on safety or quality with another provider.

Built with remount-ability in mind.

At Crestline, our manufacturing process is inverted. We mount the ambulance module on the chassis at the end of the production cycle, not at the beginning. This results in a finished ambulance with fewer hidden components and a time savings of up to 50% compared to traditionally mounted ambulance bodies.

We have a dedicated ambulance remount team in Saskatoon and are a certified QVM (Qualified Vehicle Modifiers) remounter.

Ideal timing is different for each customer. It depends on a few variables, such as mileage, vehicle model year, driving behaviour, and the level of care and maintenance.
Usually, an ambulance remount is done between 250,000 and 300,000 km and 5-6 years old units with maintenance running. An ambulance older than 10 years is not a good candidate to remount because technology has evolved too much in between.

On average, remount customers save between $40,000 to $60,000 compared to a new ambulance purchase. The total cost will depend on how many upgrades you request beyond the list of refurbishing work we set as the standard for a safe and durable ambulance remount. We will conduct a preliminary inspection and assessment to help you decide how much you want to refurbish while maximizing your return on investment.

Of course, our engineers are familiar with every generation of Crestline ambulances. They can integrate new technologies while ensuring safe and operational systems. Many services take advantage of the opportunity to upgrade their AVL, add the ECOSMART Anti-Idling System, and modify emergency lighting. Talk to our team; we can help you select the right options for your ambulance remount.

Limitations are based on the age of your ambulance. If the gap between chassis technologies is too significant, making them compatible may be too problematic. We can help you determine whether or not an upgrade or modification is worthwhile during the initial assessment.

Yes, under certain conditions. Please check our ambulance remount warranty statement for more information. Also, the Crestline warranty will cover any component manufactured by Crestline Coach Ltd.

An ambulance remount from Crestline is safe. In fact, they meet the same industry standards as a new unit. OEM engineers and certified production technicians conduct Crestline remounts under a rigorous program. Each remount performs the same quality control check as a new ambulance, including a road test.

Of course, you are free to pick your ambulance remount provider. However, if you want peace of mind, you should return to the OEM for a certified remount. Chassis evolve throughout the lifecycle of an ambulance. Engineering expertise is required to make the systems in the module and chassis talk to each other, and your OEM has the best knowledge of this. Remounting a Crestline ambulance will a third party will also void Crestline warranty coverage. When selecting your ambulance remount provider, ask the following question: Who would you trust when it comes to a new ambulance? For most, the answer is the OEM which makes us the preferred provider for any Crestline ambulance remount.
